Exposition inaugurale de la Maison "Rey"
You are joyfully invited to attend a magical evening of old-world Island elegance to celebrate the beautiful restoration and opening of The Rey House on Mont Vernon Plantation
Friday, December 9, 2011 - 5pm to 10pm
This rare example of St. Martin's earliest plantation houses, built in 1786, has opened its doors to sunshine, adorned with the gracious "Plein Air" paintings and etchings of Sir Roland Richardson
Our inaugural exhibition showcases a sensitive collection of Sir Roland’s artworks dating back over 30 years on St. Martin, all historic records that were drawn or painted on location from life.
The evening also celebrates the donation to the community of Laurelle Richards' portrait which she personally commissioned Sir Roland to paint for the cover of her book of poetry.
“Laurelle Richards” Painted from life Sept 2009 by Sir Roland Richardson
The portrait is a generous gift to St. Martin by Mr. and Mrs. Terry Peterson, Nebraska, USA, who wish her memory to remain an inspiration to carry forth the traditional values she so dearly treasured.
Proceeds and donations from this memorable evening will benefit the Rey House to launch an exciting calendar of classes, workshops, and other cultural events as The St. Martin Art School For people of all ages.
